FortOP
The public funded LrA-FortOp project brings regional SMEs together with leading research institutions to advance next-generation laser-based production technologies. The project members from industry and academia want to establish a flexible process chain for the design, manufacturing, integration, and characterization of advanced optics, strengthening innovation in photonic manufacturing and supporting sustainable technological growth in the Aachen region.
LightFab contributes its expertise to develop advanced optical elements for application-specific laser beam shaping. These new optical components enable more precise control of laser radiation in measurement and manufacturing processes, leading to improved efficiency, higher process stability, and enhanced quality.
3D GlassGuard
Current sensors integrated into chip-level and printed circuit board processes are currently only available on very small substrates made of silicon, silicon nitride, and lithium niobate, or semiconductor components for active optical functions and lasers. The disadvantages are limited spectral transmission and costly manufacturing processes.
To address the above and other challenges, a three-dimensional optical integration of various optical functionalities like waveguides in glass films will be developed. This will be achieved by combining two different fabrication processes (fs laser writing and ion exchange) as well as AI-assisted design processes. In addition, customized assembly, bonding and welding techniques will be developed as part of the implementation of two thin-glass-based sensors for measuring current and water density.
