Mechanical functions

Spring mechanism

The shown spring is part of a cycle counter. As temperature lowers, the metal pin will bend upwards, allowing the glass spring to relax upwards, thus allowing the gear counter to move forwards.

Ball bearings

The obvious advantages of this type of glass products are:

  • High corrosion resistance
  • Lightweight
  • Lubrication free
  • Non-magnetic
  • Non-conductive
  • No assembly necessary

LPFG deformer

Design by COMEM Optocon GmbH

Pressing a grooved plate against an optical fiber creates microbends that alter the period and refractive index of the grating, thereby enabling highly tunable spectral filtering and sensing.

It is beneficial to use glass for LPFG devices because it povides important properties:

  • Same coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) as fiber
  • High stiffness and no creep
  • Wear and chemical resistance

Impossible parts

Glass is a very rigid material, which means that many features could not be produced using previous machining technologies.

Since the SLE process etches excess material away from the solid block, it provides full control over every µm3 of the glass.
Not only can undercuts, intersecting, and winding channels be created, but also completely airtight cavities.

IMTEK ?

Assembly bench for the precise alignment of optical elements for medical endoscopy applications.

Benefits:

  • High precision
