Why is welding so important?

With the SLE technology the etching of a very thin and very long channel would lead to an hourglass shaped channel after etching.

If you decide to etch the channel on top of a glass sheet, the laser time will be much lower and the dimensional accuracy much higher.

In a second step you can place a second glass to cover the channel and directly weld it, without the need of adhesives or laminates

When is welding not replaceable?

If you want to encapsulate a gas or a vacuum inside a glass cavity, you will quickly find the limits of other processes.

Due to the fact, that the LightFab 3DPrinter can weld easily shoot inside a vacuum or gas chamber, you can decide what gas should be in the cavity before we weld it for you

Is every glass type weldable?

Up to now, we can weld:

  • Fused Silica
  • D263
  • AF 32
  • Sodalime
  • Sapphire
  • MEMPAX
  • Borofloat 33
  • Eagle XG
  • Different smartphone glasses

Can you combine different glass types

It depends a bit on the properties of the different joining partners. If they are similar, welding should be possible.
